ADA NSW congratulates Dr Carmelo Bonanno (left) for his recent election as ADA President at the November meeting of Federal Council. Immediate Past President Dr Hugo Sachs (right) handed over the reins after two years as President and 20 years at the ADA. 

Dr Bonanno graduated from the University of Sydney with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery in 1986. He has been an ongoing member of ADA NSW since, awarded honorary life membership for his outstanding contribution to the advancement of dentistry. Carmelo currently practices in the ACT and Queanbeyan, NSW for a referral-based practice offering dental treatment under sedation. He has served the ADA in several key positions including President of the NSW Branch from 2001 to 2002 and ADA NSW Councillor in 1994, from 1997 to 2010, and 2012 to present. He is currently the Chair of the Schedule and Third-Party Committee, which he has served on since 1997. Carmelo is a Fellow of the Academy of Dentistry International, the International College of Dentists and the Pierre Fauchard Academy. He served on the Dental Board of Australia from 2009 to 2012.
