Join this Dental Health Week Launch Event recording online to hear from globally renowned oral health expert and advocate, Professor Donald Chi, and the discussion panel. This event provides 1.5 hours of free online CPD.
Professor Chi, from the University of Washington, is dual board-certified in paediatric dentistry and dental public health. His expertise includes oral health disparities, social determinants of health, and Native American health.
Professor Chi received the 2017 IADR Distinguished Scientist Award and Paediatric Dentist of the Year by the American Academy of Paediatric Dentistry in 2018 and spent the 2016-2017 academic year as a Fellow at the Centre for Advanced Study in the Behavioural Sciences at Stanford University. Professor Chi teaches public health to dental students and paediatric dentistry residents and has been a staff paediatric dentist at the Odessa Brown Children’s Clinic in Seattle since 2009.
More than 100,000 patients in NSW alone are currently waiting for treatment on the state’s public dental waiting list. About 40% of over-15s in Australia put off going to the dentist every year due to the cost. And about 1 in 4 children have untreated tooth decay.
How then can we best deliver high-quality oral health care to our most vulnerable community members? How can we highlight the importance of oral care and ensure those who most urgently need care receive it? And how can we work most effectively with other members of the healthcare profession to ensure patients receive the greatest benefit?
Also appearing at the event are panel members – Professor Woosung Sohn (Sydney Dental School’s Chair of Population Oral Health), Dr Danielle McMullen (AMA NSW Immediate Past President) and Dr Kathleen Matthews, ADA NSW Immediate Past President and dentist of more than 30 years.
