The Health Department has confirmed it is investigating a potential infection control breach at a Perth dental practice.

It is understood the case relates to a possible cross-contamination of instruments at a northern suburbs dental clinic, which treated a child last week soon after treating another patient who had hepatitis C and might have been infectious.

It is believed the matter has also been reported to the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency and the Australian Dental Association’s WA branch.

The Health Department said yesterday it had begun its investigation after being informed of a possible breach of infection control practices.

The ADA said it was aware of the case but could not comment because AHPRA was investigating.
