Despite being largely preventable, dental decay is Australia’s second most costly diet-related disease.

  • About 90% of all tooth loss can be attributed to tooth decay and gum disease
  • Almost 29% of Australians aged 25 to 44 have untreated tooth decay
  • 19% of Australians over 65 years of age have lost all their teeth.

Regular dental visits and consistent oral hygiene habits significantly reduce the risks associated with tooth decay and gum disease, benefiting both health and the economy.

Maintaining good oral health involves brushing twice daily with fluoride toothpaste, flossing daily, limiting sugary foods within a balanced diet, and scheduling regular dental check-ups every 6–12 months to identify and treat potential issues early.
