Tooth decay, obesity and diabetes continue to be major health problems for the Australian community. As part of our community outreach program, we regularly attend expos and community events to talk about oral health and the impact of sugar on our teeth.
ADA NSW supports the introduction of a Sugar Tax by the Australian government with the revenue directed towards public awareness campaigns and other initiatives to help all Australians achieve healthier diets.
Attended Pregnancy, Baby and Children’s Expo, February 2025
We visited the Pregnancy, Babies and Children’s (PBC) Expo in Homebush. Over two days, our ADA NSW representatives engaged with many community members to discuss oral hygiene for infants and children and the importance of maintaining parental oral health. We will be attending several more PBC expos in NSW and the ACT throughout 2025.

Attended Sweet Beats in Canley Vale, June 2024
We visited a community event called Sweet Beats in Canley Vale to discuss sugar and tooth decay. Dr Jodie Olivier met local dentist Dr Amy Luong and spoke to NSW MP Mr Tri Vo. ADA’s new translated fact sheets on sugary drinks and food choices were handed out along with toothpaste and Extra sugar free gum.

ADA NSW President Dr Dominic Aouad was interviewed on ABC Radio Canberra about cost of living pressures and access to dental care. He discussed how dentists are noticing a reduction in the number of people accessing their services and how the cost of living is forcing people to reduce spending on dental health.
