ADA NSW selects Brightspace to support member growth by providing a more enhanced learning experience

D2L, a global learning technology company, has been chosen by the Australian Dental Association New South Wales Branch (ADA NSW) to support member growth by providing an enhanced learning experience with more modes of learning delivery for its more than 5,000 members.

ADA NSW Centre for Professional Development (CPD) provides world-class education and training to support dentistry career growth at every stage, including students, recently graduated dentists, early career dentists, established practitioners, dental practice owners and retirees. By implementing the D2L Brightspace Learning Management System (LMS), ADA NSW aims to optimise the courses it offers to each segment to see that the association stays relevant and connected to its members at every career stage.

“Our retention rate is impressive at 93 per cent in 2024. However, the growth rate has been stagnant, and we were looking at ways we could step it up,” said Jae Redden, CEO of ADA NSW. “Our challenge is to drive engagement amongst the digitally native younger members as they progress through their careers as well as to connect more with all our members. We have invested in D2L Brightspace to personalise the learning journey to provide exceptional value to our members at every career stage.”

ADA NSW provides hands-on practical skills workshops in its clinical space and digital dentistry training, including using artificial intelligence (AI), 3D printing, and high-definition intraoral scanning in its state-of-the-art digital learning space.

“We are increasingly engaging with new tools and innovative technologies that are constantly advancing in the world of dentistry,” said Claire Schifter, CPD Manager at ADA NSW.

ADA NSW currently generates around 30 per cent of its revenue from its education program and offers around 200 courses annually to around 4,000 participants. With the rollout of D2L Brightspace, ADA NSW is looking to augment its course offering and expand.

“Whilst there has been an increase in demand for hybrid learning due to a shift in our members’ needs and preferences, the practical nature of dentistry still benefits from face-to-face, hands-on practice,” said Dr Cathleen Dong, Clinical Education Principal and Board Member at ADA NSW.

ADA NSW can increasingly offer online learning via D2L Brightspace, including lecture-based content and on-demand webinars. These courses are generally developed and taught by subject matter experts and specialists and are designed to help prepare members for the practical, hands-on workshops that they have to attend in person.

“By implementing D2L Brightspace, we want to enhance the Association’s digital workflow. This will enable continuous learning, including reflection and self-assessment, and help assess our member’s learning needs at each phase of their careers,” said Dr Cathleen Dong.

“We are thrilled to be working with the Australian Dental Association NSW to help them drive member growth by offering a more enhanced personalised learning experience via D2L Brightspace,” said Tony Maguire, Regional Director for Australia and New Zealand at D2L.
